Sample a wee dram during a tour of Glen Garioch Distillery in Oldmeldrum (one of the oldest operating distilleries in Scotland).
Pitmedden Garden – re-created in the French formal style, this fascinating garden has around 5 miles of box-hedge parterres in-filled with approximately 40,000 bedding plants, glorious herbaceous borders and an ever-growing collection of apples, some of which grow against the walls of the Great Garden. There is also an interesting museum of farming life, creatively displaying farming implements and machinery from a bygone age.
Experience the magic and medieval grandeur of Castle Fraser and stroll around the vast grounds before heading off to the Scottish countryside.
Bennachie is a range of hills with various summits. The walk to the top is moderate and takes around a hour to an hour and a half depending on ability and the number of times you stop to soak in the scenery and take photos. From the top of one of the peaks, Mither Tap, there are the most spectacular views (on a clear day). The is remains of a Pictish hill fort lie just below the summit.
800 year old Fyvie Castle (with its ghost, The Green Lady) has a superb collection armour and weapons on display throughout the building, wonderful paintings by some very famous artists, period furniture and ghostly ‘goings on’. The gardens are a delight and there is a lovely lake to walk around, admiring the wildlife as you go.
